Talkie.ai and Freed AI both offer independent practices an AI front desk that answers patient calls around the clock and follows up by text. Talkie.ai has been building voice AI since 2018 and runs one agent across calls, texts, webchat and forms, writing its work into five EHRs. Freed AI started as an AI scribe and launched its Front Desk receptionist in April 2026.

Which one fits your practice?

Freed Front Desk answers calls around the clock and turns each call into a summarized entry in a shared staff inbox; Freed’s Front Desk page says it also resolves routine requests on the call.

Talkie is built so the requests it handles end as finished work in your EHR: it schedules appointments and writes refills and messages straight into athenaOne, ModMed EMA, Elation Health, AdvancedMD or eMedicalPractice, so your staff start from a completed record. The same agent runs reminders, waitlist and recall, so open slots get filled without a second tool. And every partnership starts with a 90-day pilot on your own call volume, so you see results before committing long term; 9 of 10 practices that pilot Talkie stay on.

How Talkie.ai and Freed AI compare

Talkie.ai

Freed AI (Front Desk)

Built for

Independent medical practices and groups, from single-provider offices to multi-location, multi-specialty groups (1–100 providers) in 30+ specialties. No minimum, no enterprise rollout required.

Origin / years on market

Building voice AI since 2018

Founded January 2023 with an AI scribe; Front Desk launched April 2026.

What the product is

A conversational AI receptionist, exclusively for healthcare: the same AI agent handles inbound and outbound calls, texts, webchat, and forms.

An AI receptionist added to Freed’s AI scribe platform. Labeled beta.

EHR scope

Native integrations with athenaOne, ModMed EMA, Elation Health, AdvancedMD and eMedicalPractice. Talkie reads live availability and writes appointments, reschedules, cancellations, refill requests, messages, and more straight into the EHR, so your schedule and charts stay current without manual entry.

Appointment cancellations in athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and Practice Fusion, in beta since June 2026. Direct EHR integrations aren’t available yet; Freed lists them as coming in Front Desk Advanced.

Channels

Phone (inbound and outbound), two-way texting, webchat, smart forms. One agent runs all four, so patients never have to repeat themselves.

Inbound calls forwarded from the practice’s numbers, plus two-way SMS that staff send from the inbox.

Patient outreach

Confirmations, reschedules, reminders, waitlist management and recall of overdue patients, booked straight into the EHR, so open slots refill without involving staff.

Automated outreach isn’t available yet; Freed lists it as coming in Front Desk Advanced.

Multilingual support

Answers in the patient’s preferred language; English, Spanish, Korean and 50+ more.

90+ languages, detected automatically on the call, per its April 2026 launch release.

Implementation support

Guided implementation with a dedicated team; ongoing optimization included.

Self-serve setup: an editable knowledge base built from a scan of the practice’s website, plus help with call forwarding. Optional consult with sales.

Security

HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 Type II independently audited; annual third-party penetration testing. NIST AI Risk Management Framework. Detailed control list published in Security & Trust Center.

HIPAA-compliant and SOC 2 Type II, per its Front Desk page.

Partnerships

Approved Privia Health vendor.

Doesn’t publish partnerships for Front Desk.

Track record

300+ practices across 30+ specialties; 9 of 10 pilots convert to long-term partnerships.

Doesn’t publish a Front Desk customer count.

Pricing

Plans start from $1,000/month for about 5,000 AI minutes (roughly 2,500 calls); every practice starts with a pilot, then month-to-month or discounted 12-month terms.

$149/month per block of 250 calls; free trial on live calls.

What does each AI front desk write into your EHR?

Freed Front Desk records each call in a shared inbox as a categorized summary with a transcript; Freed says routine requests are resolved on the call and the inbox holds what needs a person. In the EHR, Freed lists one Front Desk action: canceling appointments in athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and Practice Fusion, released in beta in June 2026, according to Freed’s Front Desk release notes. Direct EHR integrations for Front Desk aren’t available yet; Freed lists them as coming soon in a Front Desk Advanced plan.

Talkie writes its work into the EHR as each call happens. In every EHR it integrates with, Talkie schedules against live availability, creates new patient charts, captures refill requests, files messages (including priority cases), verifies patients and runs outreach, so the chart is current before anyone on your team opens it.

Here’s what that looks like for one practice on athenaOne:

Talkie works directly inside athenaOne: if a patient needs a callback within the hour, it files a priority-one patient case. For scheduling calls alone, about 4 in 5 are now handled completely by Talkie.

Each of Talkie’s native integrations has its own page:

Because Talkie runs on five EHRs, you keep the same AI front desk if you switch systems.

What to ask both vendors: after a call ends, what lands in my EHR, and what does my staff still enter by hand?

Can you see each integration working before you commit?

Talkie publishes recorded demos of its integrations at work, with playlists for athenaOne, ModMed EMA and Elation Health. An athenaOne integration webinar also shows the agent scheduling appointments and creating charts for new patients. That lets you check the workflow your staff would use before the first sales call.

Freed’s launch press release lists a phone number practices can call to try its receptionist themselves.

How do setup and support compare?

Freed’s Front Desk setup is self-serve: the practice edits a knowledge base Freed builds from its website, forwards its calls and starts a free trial on live calls, with an optional sales consult.

Talkie provides a dedicated implementation team that works with your practice to configure the agent to your workflows, then reviews real calls regularly after launch, so issues are caught and fixed early. Talkie also provides each practice with educational materials to share with patients, plus a patient adoption checklist, so your patients know what to expect when the agent answers.

Every Talkie partnership starts with a 90-day pilot. Because it’s paid, it’s a real commitment on both sides. Ninety days is long enough to see real results on your own call volume, and 9 in 10 practices that pilot Talkie stay on.

How much do Talkie and Freed AI cost?

Both vendors publish a starting price.

Freed Front Desk Starter costs $149 a month per block of 250 calls, with extra blocks billed automatically and a free trial on live calls.

Talkie’s pricing works like this:

  • Plans start at $1,000/month for about 5,000 AI minutes, roughly 2,500 patient calls.
  • Extra minutes cost 20¢ each, so a seasonal spike doesn’t force a plan change.
  • Every partnership starts with a paid 90-day pilot on your own phones and EHR, so you see results before any long-term commitment.
  • After the pilot, you choose the term: month-to-month, or 12 months at 10% off, so you can pick flexibility or a lower rate.
  • Your final price is a quote based on call volume, specialty mix and workflows, so you pay for what your practice needs rather than a one-size plan.
  • Implementation is free when three or more separate practices sign together, so peers who join as a group don’t pay for setup.

When Talkie is the right fit for your practice

Talkie is likely the stronger pick if:

  • You want each call to end as finished work in your EHR. Talkie schedules and writes refills, messages and patient cases into five EHRs, so your staff don’t re-enter it by hand.
  • You’re on athenaOne or in the Privia network. Talkie has been an athenahealth Marketplace partner since 2024 and is an approved Privia Health vendor, so you adopt a partner that has already been vetted.
  • You want outreach as well as answering. Confirmations, reminders, waitlist and recall run from the same agent, so open slots get filled without a separate tool.
  • Your patients reach you by call, text, and webchat. One agent handles all three, so a request started on the phone can finish by text.

If you spot something out of date, write to contact@talkie.ai and we will fix it.

Every practice runs its front desk a little differently, and that’s easier to talk through on a call.
